2 Corinthians 2:14
New International Version (NIV)
14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.
I have to say, if you are a parent you know that there is truly nothing harder in life than watching your child struggle or suffer. Period. It is like a part of you is hurting but it is NOT you…you just wish it was. You would give anything to relieve the pain. But unfortunately, you are helpless.
Surrender is a word we do not like to even whisper. Giving up control- especially of our child- is one of the hardest- if not THE hardest thing we will ever have to do.
But we have no choice. At some point, we must surrender our child to God. We must acknowledge that our child is first and foremost, His child. And we are only really assigned to be their caretakers here on earth.
Having a child with type 1 diabetes has really been an experience for me. I have watched my child suffer. In fact, it is a daily thing for us. Some days, her pain is worse than others. Some days, truly, it is more of an inconvenience.
She has faced some demons though. She, at 8 years old, has questioned why she must endure this. She has questioned why she cannot just go home to Heaven and be with God, where she can eat what she wants and not worry about low blood sugar.
Last summer, she hit a real low. We tried an insulin pump and it was just not a good fit at the time. I feel like the poor baby almost had a nervous breakdown. I had never seen her so down, nor had I ever seen any CHILD so young so down. It was traumatic.
Somehow, she pulled herself out of the pit she was in. She found God and she found strength. Toward the end of this terrible time, I found a note that she had written that said this (unedited):
God is with you no matter where you go or hide.
God loves you no matter what you do.
God will take care of you all the time. He will help you work out all the problems in your life.
God is good. No matter what you do.
God will never forget to help you.
God is God. No one can replace him
Do not wish to be God or want His powers for yourself.
Love God with all of your heart.
Think the word JOY. Jesus Others You.
I was floored. Her pain drove her straight into the arms of her Father. Her heavenly father. And he rescued her.
Just like he will rescue you.
Seek him. You will find him. He loves you.
Wow.
ReplyDeleteAnd - I must add - that there was a reason God had in my not reading this until now, although you posted it several days ago: It's the THIRD time in 24 hours that He has 'paraded' the word SURRENDER in front of me.
I will soak in that place of surrender now. . . and praise Him.
'And a little child shall lead them. . .' ;)
